I had similar issues with this ammo with one of my Lithgow Enfields, the rounds key holed at 50yrds after about 7 rounds, went back home and slugged the bore on my 1942 Lithgow and even with a slightly pitted bore I have a .312 dia. Bore, and so I checked the diameter of these bullets is .310, I shot it in a 1917 BSA and had no issues, I had better luck with the MEN 303 ammo, results will vary by what I’ve read from other people’ comments who have purchased this ammo, when doubt, slug your barrel first
works ok out of my p14 (with .303 criterion barrel) I've been able to get a little under 1" groupings from 3 shots firing prone at 50 yards. fired 20 rounds total not a single one keyholed, it was around 100fps faster than themen83 ammo.
UPDATE. These bullets measure .309. I have measured them with a caliper vs the PPU and MEN 83 surplus ammo available on SGAMMO. All other brands of ammo I have tried or loaded myself use bullets of .311-.312 This would explain the key-holing.
TERRIBLE in my 1942 British made Enfield with a pristine 2 grove bore! I have only shot 10 rounds at 50 yards. about 4 inch groups with 3 tumbles / sideways / keyholes. 3 out of 10! The Surplus MEN ammo on this site is excellent if you can afford a couple extra bucks! every rifle is different. buy a box or 2 like I did to test before you go crazy and buy a huge case!!! It might work in your rifle. I wish I could upload pics. these bullets literally go in completely sideways!
I bought a few boxes of this to give it a shot, at the price point I figured I'd chance it even with the other comments about keyholing. Took my 1943 No4 Mk1 out to the range yesterday and sure enough I'm keyholing every other round. It does fire every time and it extracts smoothly so that's something, at least. After getting home I got out my calipers and a few of the German MEN surplus I picked up the same time. The Wolf measures .308 at the case head and the MEN surplus measures .311 (which shot perfectly every time). I believe that's the issue. Not an issue with anyone's rifle.
Works flawlessly out of my 1954 No4 MK2 Enfield. Pretty accurate, didn't do anything on paper but what was missed I could blame on the shooter rather than the ammo. Can't say much for these supposed keyholing issues, but no rimlock on any round nor did it stick in my chamber!
Bought 5 boxes of these last month. Fired 20 rounds out of my Enfield No4Mk2 and all rounds functioned and cycled fine. Can't really say much for its accuracy @ 100 yards, but it was decent enough for a day of plinking at the range. I didn't expect much out of it considering the price anyway. Wolf makes decent ammo across the board, just keep your expectations low and you wont be disappointed. As for SGAmmo...truly a wonderful company to deal with. Great selection of ammo at great prices that undercut competitor's over-priced ammo. Will definitely order from this company again.
This round fires every time but keyholes badly out of my Mk4 No1 Enfield. I do not recommend it. On a positive note, Sam and crew at SGAmmo are the greatest. I have been a customer for over 3 years and have completed 20 successful and satisfactory orders. I recommend SGAmmo to anyone and everyone that asks my advice on ammo purchase.
My 1917 LeeEnfield no1 mk3 keyholes this round. I guess I have the 2 groove barrel.
Functions fine but keyholes out of my rifle. These are boat tail bullets which you may think is a good thing but 2 groove barrels do NOT like boat tails so if you have a 2 groove barrel you would probably be better served by something else that is not boat tailed. So unless you're just looking to make noise and wing bullets down range as cheap as possible do yourself a favor and find a decent round with a flat based bullet. I can't say how they perform out of 5 Groove or any other barrels as I haven't tried them in anything other then a 2 grove but I've heard they work ok for that application.
